Toy Figurines - Are They the Same As Dolls Or Actions Figures?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Toy figurines, or (gasp in horror) dolls, being played by your son? Imagine the shock of most fathers if their sons want that hottest "doll" for Christmas present. But hold your horses Dads; maybe what your son wanted was an action figure. Whew! You can sigh in relief now. There are differences between toy figurines, dolls and action figures although for the uninitiated, they all look the same, hence, the confusions. However, even experts and collectors argue on how to classify one from the other. That is because there's no concrete definition to distinguish them. The fact that no black-and-white definition has been put forth, gray areas also abound to make matters worse.

Most of us know what dolls are. Barbies and Raggedy-Anns are dolls. They usually have clothing that can be removed and accessories that can be attached. We often hear in toy commercials that "clothing and accessories are each sold separately". Dolls, like Barbie, may have movable joints. They can be posed to mimic that of a real person. They are also almost always bought to be played with. Unlike action figures or toy figurines that, although they are played with also, most of the time, we see them displayed or kept somewhere safe if they're collectibles. Basically, if a toy figure is something a girl would want, that is a doll.

Here is the tricky part. Toy figurines and action figures are the hardest to distinguish from one another. But first, don't confuse a figurine that is meant to be displayed by your mom in your living room, like that of a horse figurine. This figurine is almost always made of porcelain, clay or stone. The operating word here is "toy". Toy figurines, like action figures are made of molded plastic. They are representation of characters that kids, or collectors, can identify with, like superheroes or movie characters. The difference between them is that toy figurines don't have moving parts and most of them are attached to their base for display.

The word "action" is the key in classifying which are action figures and which are toy figurines. "Action" here means the ability to pose the figure. If toy figurines are static and with no moving parts, action figures are, well- action-packed. They usually have at least 3 moving parts or "point of articulation". They can be posed in different ways to mimic how the character actually moves. Although some action figures have clothing and accessories that can be replaced or interchanged, like that of a doll, the key word again, is action. That's why action figure of Lara Croft from The Tomb Raider franchise is considered an action figure and not a doll, although Lara Croft is a girl, like Barbie or Raggedy-Ann.

There are similarities and differences between toy figurines, dolls and action figures. We can go on and on discussing and debating these but in the end, we will go back to square one with no real, concrete way of classifying which is an action figure, a doll or a toy figurine. It all boils down on the reason why you want that figure in the first place; to play with it? to display it? to collect it as an investment? So what's wrong with your son playing with what looks to you like a doll? As long as he's happy right? Right Dad?

Barbie Through the Years

Image : http://www.flickr.com

No doubt about it, Barbie dolls have taken the world by storm. Every second, a Barbie doll is being sold somewhere in the world, catapulting it into a billion dollar success with business interests that range from the dolls, to movie cds, to computer games, to clothes to shoes and other fashion accessories.

It is said that if all the barbies that have been sold in the market since 1959 are to be placed one over the other from the head to the toe, the dolls would have circled the earth not just once or twice but seven times.

It may seem such a great idea now but at that time when it came out in the market, toy critics were pretty skeptical with it. The doll is an innovation. Never before had they seen a doll that is so small and yet so sophisticated. Compared to the dolls that came out that year, the Barbie doll seems to be too complicated for a kid.

Still, Ruth Handler pushed on with her invention, launching a TV campaign that caught the imagination of little girls worldwide. It was not long before the Barbie doll became a bestseller. The idea of creating a Barbie started when Ruth saw her daughter playing with paper dolls and paper clothes.

She then thought, why not make a three-dimensional toy that little girls can actually play with and dress up? Why not make a teenaged doll which little girls can look up to?
She researched the market and found that there are no manufacturers of dolls like the one she is imagining. She then created the doll through her company, which she founded with her husband Elliot Handler.

The very first doll that came out is a teenage fashion model, clad in a black and white striped bathing suit. She had long hair tied in swirled ponytails. Through the years, Barbie dolls adapted the current fashion of that decade, sometimes even blazing in her own fashion trends. She even wore couturier creations and designer clothes, not only from the United Stated but also from around the world. In fact, in 1960, she began wearing outfits like the Gay Parisienne(TM) and the Easter Parade, which are both gotten from the famous fashion houses of France.

Barbie became the image of American girls, copying the styles of famous fashion icons like Jackie Onassis. One of the most popular look that Barbie set is the American Girl, who has a chin-length Dutch-boy hairstyle.

It's Time to Start Researching Summer Camps!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Spring is here, the weather is warming up, and the kids will be out of school soon. The minute the kids returned to school after spring break, the schools made their final push to keep the kids behavior in line for the remainder of the school year. My middle schooler heard the famous "You're not invisible speech" again. This is where the principal reminds the kids that it's not time to throw all the rules out the window - that people are still watching. And my sixth grader signed a contract outlining the behavior required to participate in the fun year-end activities.

This means that it's time for parents to start thinking about summer time activities for kids. For many, that means summer camp! Yes, there are lots of overnight camps available, and I'm sure that a lot of kids will spend a week away from home this year. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the wide variety of daytime summer programs out there.

During the school year, the choices are somewhat limited. First, by time. The kids need to go to school until about 2 or 3 o'clock. Then by geography. How far can you drive them after school every day, especially while you work? But summer is a different matter altogether. Kids can go to a summer camp that lasts a few hours every day, up to the entire day while Mom and Dad work. There are general camps where kids go to play, learn, be occupied and have fun. Then there are activities specific camps of every flavor. Is your child an aspiring cheerleader, actor or swimmer? What about art, marine biology, or soccer? If your child wants to pursue a favorite activity a little further, this is a great time. If he or she wants to try something new, this is their chance. Many camps allow you to enroll your child for one week at a time, so they can participate in a variety of activities over their summer break.

Here's the part that might surprise you. It's time to start researching summer camps now, especially if your child is interested in something specific. Spaces fill up fast.

Vogue Dolls - The Littlest Angel Children's and Ginny

Image : http://www.flickr.com

During the years 1960-1980 Vogue Doll Company produced a doll named "Ginny Baby".

I especially like the Vogue Ginny Baby Doll. I have several of them in my collection, "Vogue" (images can be found on the site). Two of my collection was built in 1965 and are called Vogue Ginny Baby Doll. Everyone has his original clothes that are different. Both are wearing hats. She does not drink / wet / dry nurserVersions.

The company also produced the Vogue Ginny Doll Baby doll in all these years have been the price of drink / wet doll, and some were dry / nurser (produced in the years 1962 and 1963). I showed an example on the site of a drink / baby wet Ginny in her original red and dressed.

Vogue Ginny Baby Doll came in many different formats. The size that I have great examples all three are 13 inches.

A doll named Angel Baby Vogue produced only in years of1964-1968 is sometimes slightly different from the others and I stand 14 inches tall.

The smallest of these dolls was 8 inches, and an example is the sister Ginny, Ginnetti in this format. Other sizes, 13 ", 14", 16 'and 25 "versions. Not all of these formats is available each year.

All my Vogue Ginny Baby Dolls have rooted hair, but some of these dolls were made with painted hair instead.

Most of them are usually on the back of the neck "Ginny markedBaby, "or" Vogue ".

You can find the information in my opinion, the Vogue Ginny Dolls Vogue in Encyclopedia of iZen / Stover. In this book, means that the company does not publish data for the years some of these dolls were produced. This, as it is, makes it even more difficult to identify these dolls with perfection.

Most of the garments produced by Vogue Doll is on a seam inside it. Identification of authentic Vogue dress is a simple enough task, sinceThis seems very consistent over the years, the Vogue doll clothing is made.

Vogue Ginny dolls were popular in 1960, but Mattel Barbie has begun to dominate the market for the doll and soon became a more popular line of dolls. Walking, talking, crawling, singing, dancing, skating dolls also began for the great popularity of the baby-boom generation to win. As a child I had a Barbie, but none of Vogue GinnyBaby Dolls. The discovery of Vogue Ginny Baby doll is a little more joy for me. Of course, as my Chatty Cathy, Barbie dolls have lost my childhood on the move somewhere. It 'so fun, even if they remember.

Vogue Littlest Angel dolls were made in 1960 also yielded Vogue various equipment. Each is about 15 inches tall and have movable limbs, and eyes to sleep. Many of them have long braided blonde hair. Vogue has acquired the rightsThis doll from Arranbee Doll Company in late 1950 and then they put in their catalogs early 1960. Some earlier versions are marked with the R & B characters, and some are 11 "instead of 15" that I have in my collection. There was also a black version of Littlest Angel Doll. Many of them have been sold with a metal doll trunk. A truly beautiful, original clothing Littlest Angel Doll was a red velvet pantsuit.

Barbie Makes A Comeback

Image : http://www.flickr.com

For those with other things in their life besides controversial plastic dolls, Barbie has had a rough time of it in the last few years. For almost five decades, Barbie has been the leading icon of fashion the world over. But in an instant all that changed. The classic good looks, multiple vehicles and dream houses weren't good enough - new fashion dolls had arrived in a big way.

Bratz

The four teenage dolls who dressed in urban fashions offered something new to girls looking for updated playthings. Barbie might be a modern princess, but these four girls were "real." Bratz had an edge that Barbie simply couldn't compete with, and that was a dramatic shift in 2001, after four decades of essentially no competition in the fashion doll marketplace.

Barbie Stumbles...But Recovers

Hit by an urban onslaught, Barbie didn't have much of an initial response. The same style of doll had been updated over the years to reflect current styles and current demographics, but even the different styles of Barbie still maintained a more preppy look. Bratz weren't preppy, and they weren't always sweet and helpful. Not only are Bratz slightly younger, and therefore more appropriate for youthful styles, they are stealing away girls who have always wanted something edgier from Barbie.

Barbie felt the sting of rejection as sales of the popular doll slumped thirty percent in the United States in three years. But Barbie wasn't out of the game just yet. Not only did she still have a huge fan base including girls of all ages, she also had a great deal of fighting spirit. In 2004 Barbie broke up with Ken to try out the singles scene.

The split did the couple well as Ken underwent some changes and came back more attractive and stylish than ever. The changes made many curious about a renewed romance, but publicists for Barbie at least deny a new relationship. Then, possibly seeing the benefits a make-over, Barbie has one herself. Her wardrobe expands and her looks change slightly in 2007. The interest over Ken and now a revamped Barbie started the blonde's comeback.

The Fight Intensifies

Barbie isn't moving out of the top position without a solid fight, and so far she's not pulling any punches. In fact, Bratz might be feeling the heat. In 2005, Bratz manufacturer MGA Entertainment sued Mattel over the My Scenes dolls, of which Barbie was a part. The lawsuit is still pending, and the My Scene dolls are already fading in favor of other doll lines, but Mattel left no question that the Bratz couldn't simply arrive without resistance.

Not only are new doll lines being created to compete with each other, Barbie is continuing her comeback online. Barbie games on the internet are giving Barbie new grounds to reach fans and expand her fan base. Girls who might not enjoy an actual Barbie doll are playing dress up games with Barbie online and loving it. Online versions of Barbie have endless wardrobe possibilities and unlimited accessories. New styles are released daily and no plastic doll can compete with that.

Compiling Barbie Pictures

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Barbie is indeed the most popular doll in the world. Since its launch at the American Toy Fair in New York City last March 1959, Barbie continued to capture the hearts of girls and women worldwide regardless of their age, race, and status in life.

Studies say that the Barbie doll is a $1.9 billion dollar industry yearly. Mattel Inc.-the creator of Barbie dolls-has even claimed that over three Barbie dolls are sold every second worldwide. Barbie was invented, designed, and created by Ruth Handler, the cofounder of Mattel in 1959. She was inspired from a Lilly Doll brought from Germany and is named after Ruth's daughter, Barbara.

The creators were supposed to market Barbie as a teenage fashion doll but when younger girls seem to like it, they opened other venues and shifted their targeted market. Barbie is quite popular because of her seemingly perfect stature and body measurements of 36-18-38. She's also became a hit because almost all the girls in the world wanted to be like her at one point in their lives. Aside from Barbie, Mattel also came up with her male version, Ken who was also named after the creator's son.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF COMPILATION

Aside from collecting the original Barbie doll pieces, some people have developed a hobby of collecting Barbie pictures. These people-who are fond of collecting Barbie doll pictures-enjoy collating the different pictures of Barbie since her first introduction in the doll market. For them, it is better to collect Barbie pictures compared to those original Barbie dolls because they are more convenient to store, more easier to compile and much cheaper depending on the value of the picture.

Barbie picture collectors say that collecting and compiling various Barbie dolls pictures is a good as collecting the dolls themselves because these can serve as valuable references. Aside from that, having in possession Barbie pictures can be valuable assets especially to those who are Barbie collectors themselves.

Here are some of the most sought-after Barbie pictures out there:
1. The picture of Barbie when she was first introduced in 1959.

2. Barbie's picture during her first career as a teenage fashion model.

3. Barbie's picture when she goes to College in 1964.

4. Picture of Army Barbie as a medic Sergeant in Desert Storm in 1992.

5. The picture of Barbie as the first Olympic athlete Barbie doll in 1975.

6. Barbie's picture as an astronaut in 1965, and 1986, and 1994.

7. Barbie's picture when she was introduced in Europe in 1961.

8. The pictures of Barbie with her friends and family.

Doll Collecting - Why We Do It

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I have always found dolls and bears appealing as collectibles because a person can hug them. With a collection of fine stained glass or metal objects, one doesn't have that same freedom. Glass is cold. Bears' fur is soft and warm. Humor aside, another advantage for the doll collector is being the "parent" to a "child" whose psyche can't be warped with poor parenting skills or lack of experience. Dolls don't care if they sit on the bed or a shelf for weeks. Dolls aren't picky about their outfits-- pink frills or blue sailboats--all ok. Dolls not anatomically correct (and even some that are) don't mind being dressed as a boy or a girl. And when you are done, they sit where you put them without running around getting dirt and schmutz on their new clean clothes.

Research in child development even supports the idea that we humans having been hardwired to bond to young for survival of our species, are attracted to teddy bears and dolls because of the round cheeks and big eyes, round bellies so similar to those of human babies. Price can be an issue in doll collecting. If a person prefers the artist doll, limited edition or one-of-a-kind it is possible to pay thousands of dollars and to wait several years for a new piece. On the other hand, Ashton-Drake type collectibles make dolls affordable for most budgets. And yet further still on the scale, a person can find a loveable doll in a thrift store or kids' shop just because it was love at first sight.

There are so many kinds of dolls, bears and other animals out there now. Just go to any Barnes and Noble and check out "Doll Reader" or "Contemporary Artist Dolls" magazines. From abstract bizarre creations, classic sculptures, porcelains, resins--Fimo, Sculpey and others, babies so life-like they seem to cry, babies that "breathe", vinyls of very good quality with paint that looks like skin tones, fabric dolls, dolls made by hobbyists and dolls made by professionally trained artists, clothing by fashion designers, bear creators who start with raising the rabbits and sheep to harvest the wool to make the felt to make the bear..the possibilities are endless.

One thing is for sure--we're not talking your mother's Barbie dolls any more! To be fair, Barbie does seem to endure and remain ageless and isn't she lucky? even though Ken went by the wayside, usurped by an Australian surfer dude after 40 years. Poor guy! Barbie stands up to all the new exciting fashion doll creations as well.

The aisles of Toys R Us contain very good quality vinyl play dolls made by German and Spanish companies who can become under the watchful eyes and skilled hands of "Re-born" artists another class of one-of-a-kind collectible babies. Left to their own devices these dolls make wonderful durable play babies for children.

It is possible to search online for dolls and bears in several ways. If you like a particular artist you can search that artist. If you like a particular shop you can start there. Many shops and artists have their own websites. Know what you like. Classified ads for doll shows. Trade magazines.

It is up to the individual collector whether he or she keeps the doll out. Puts it in a cabinet or keeps it boxed with acid free paper or to play with it. A lot depends on life style. A person with animal pets may find it challenging to keep the bear or doll out simply because four footed folks do find them tasty to chew and in worse cases, tempting to mark on. I have one dog who loves to carry a teddy bear in her mouth. She is a fierce protector! But just in case, she will bark at you around the dolly she carries.

Certain fabrics, vinyls, and resins are vulnerable to sunlight which can cause fading and damage. Others are temperature sensitive. Porcelain breaks. Many folks have made the mistake of trying to remove marks on vinyl dolls with acetone only to lose the paint as well! I've had poorly fired resin dolls crack and lose body parts. Dust can damage dolls and bears as well. Whatever way displayed, it is often important to keep not only the box the doll came in but also the tags, receipts, papers and certificates. This completes the piece's provenance and in the event of re-sale adds much to the worth. Some prefer rotating the doll or bear so it spends some of its time boxed and protected from the elements.

To sum things up, don't be shy or embarrassed or afraid to like dolls or bears. They are not only for children. We carry good memories of these friends with us into adulthood. Friends who comforted in hard times. Always available for a hug and a secret. Loving them still makes perfect sense.

How Fads, Trends, Marketing and Innovation Can All Effect Your Business Profits

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Perhaps the most effective way to look for business ideas and opportunities is to study trends. Be on the look out for emerging new trends where you can get in early and reap the profits before everyone else does.

However it is important to understand the difference between a fad and a trend.

A fad is like a wave washing up on shore. A trend is like the tide. Remember the hype of Ninja Turtle toys? They were a fad, and the market was flooded for a short time, with all sorts of Ninja Turtle merchandise - T shirts, watches, confectionery, stationery and even Ninja Turtle ice cream... it was all available.

Ninja Turtles were a passing fad. Agreed, you can make a quick buck out of fads. But, you can also get your fingers badly burnt. This is because; fads can be here today and gone tomorrow. Getting left with unsold stock can wipe out all the profit you have made - very quickly.

Compare this to the Barbie Doll. She is a trend. The Barbie concept has been developing steadily for decades. The doll hasn't got any older mind you. Barbie has moved with the times to reflect the changing market. Barbie is a trend.

Forget fads, unless you are very quick footed. Trends are usually a safer bet in business.

Another tip is to focus on marketing and innovation to increase your business sales and profits. Marketing is everything you do to promote your business; from start-up, to the point where customers buy your products or services, and buy from you again and again.

Marketing is what makes a business tick.

The real purpose of any business is to bring in a customer. And, there are really only two ways to do it - through marketing, or through innovation. If you really narrow it down - marketing and innovation should be the only two functions of a business. So therefore, everything else is an expense.

Good marketing can save you money and make you money. Innovation can provide a competitive edge that can set a business apart from every other business in town. Combine the two, and you have a power formula for business success.

The Wedding Guest Attire Guide

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The dress of the bride will draw the attention of everyone, but the wedding guest attire will also be important. At such events it is best to be well informed about what to wear and what to avoid, in order to be able to mingle in and feel good at this celebration party.

When deciding on your wedding garments, you should be fully informed on where and when the event will take place. The level of formality is also important when choosing the wedding guest attire. All these are essential things to consider as you need to be appropriately dressed.

Women and the wedding clothes

Women pay a lot of attention on the wedding guest attire and they always want to be in style and suitable to the occasion. Consequently, here are some indications for them. For day weddings, a suit or a short dress is what you need to get a hold of. For evening weddings, a cocktail dress is perfect. Long dresses are in for evening and night weddings. These may be adorned with beads and glittery jewelry. The color of your dress should be according to your taste and preferences. However, avoid white, as the white is the color of the bride at this event. Dark colors should be avoided during day and may be great for evening and night. Be decent when choosing the wedding guest attire, as you might offend people at the wedding with see through or if you show too much skin.

Men and wedding guest attire

Even if men do not care too much about what they wear there are certain codes which must be kept when going to a wedding. For day weddings suits are recommended. For late afternoon weddings, suits are also suggested, and this time they may be in darker colors. If you are invited to an ultra formal wedding, the ties must be worn plus a vest and a fancy suit. A tuxedo is not exactly a hot item during day time weddings; it's too much for wedding guest attire. You are allowed to wear it at an evening event. However, the simplest attire is a black suit, and this will be suitable in any possible case. Wear a black suit and you will be chic and trendy.

Should I wear this?

These brief guide lines in wedding guest attire are essential. If you wear decent and recommended clothes, you will be safe and feel good and it is like a sign of respect to your hosts and the other guests. Last but not least, the wedding guest attire should be comfortable as you will have to dance and have a good time when such a joyful event occurs.

Barbie Games, Makeovers, And Dress Up Games - Not Just For Children But Also Adults

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Ever since its launch in 1959 the Barbie doll has become immensely popular with both children and adults. Over a period of time Mattel, the company manufacturing Barbie has added many clothes, accessories like shoes and jewelery etc. not to mention Barbie playmates like Skipper and Ken. Also available in the market are Barbie playhouse, kitchen and household items and furniture.

The popularity of the Barbie doll has spawned many online Barbie games, which include makeover games and Barbie dress up games. These games are suitable for both children and adults. In these games Barbie can be dressed up for a party or as a bride, complete with dress, shoes, handbag etc.

These games also include Barbie games in which Barbie makeovers can include dressing up game and giving Barbie different hairstyles. The Barbie doll is marketed worldwide and at times is dressed up according to the dress code of the country in which it is being marketed.

The online Barbie games not only include Barbie makeover and Barbie dress up games but also present different challenges at different levels. In these games Barbie may be a spy chasing some anti social elements and may be fighting with the help of Skipper and Ken or she may be a scuba diver who has to save herself from underwater obstacles and sea animals like sharks, octopuses or make believe sea monsters.

But among all Barbie games, Barbie makeover games and Barbie dress up games are the most popular among young girls who love to dress up Barbie in different clothes to suit different occasions and in the process live out their wish of being adults and dressing up like them. Adults prefer the challenge games which challenge their mental skills apart from being a source of good entertainment.

Crochet History, Where and When Did Crochet Originate?

There are 3 theories as to where it originated:

1) In Arabia, then spread to Tibet and Spain and followed the Arab trade routes to other Mediterranean countries.

2) In South America among a primitive tribe which used crochet adornments in rites of puberty.

3) In China early examples of crochet were known of dolls worked in crochet.

There is no evidence to back these theories, or any other theories as to when crochet originated. Some say it existed in the 1500's known as nun's work or nun's lace, and included needle point lace and bobbin lace for Catholic churches. Others believe it dates back to Before Christ.

There is another theory that lace from Egyptian tombs were crocheted by twisting pieces of cotton between the fingers and making the loops by hand. Thread from Egyptian tombs is also thought to be similar to crochet.

However the earliest evidence of crochet as we know it today goes back no further than the 1800's when it became popular in Europe. "Shepherd's Knitting" from "The Memoirs of a Highland Lady," by Elizabeth Grant in 1812 is the earliest written reference to crochet. The first patterns were published in 1824.

In France it was known as "Crochet Lace," and in England it was "Chain Lace." Today the French, Belgians, Italians, and Spanish-speaking people call it crochet. In Holland they call it haken, in Denmark its haekling, in Norway its called hekling and in Sweden it's called virkning. Crochet comes from the word croc, or croche, the Middle French word for hook. The Old Norse word for hook is krokr.

In the early cultures they crocheted with a bent forefinger, instead of using a hook. The early hooks ranged from bent needles in a cork handle to beautiful crafted silver, brass, steel, ivory and bone hooks with a variety of handles.

At one point in time crochet was considered only for the wealthy; to make beautiful home décor and dress. The poor were expected to knit the basic needs such as socks and simple clothing. The wealthy did not want them to experiment with crochet because they feared the poor would fall behind in their work when working for the wealthy.

In the 1800's in Britain, America and France, crochet was used as a less costly substitute for other lace.

Crochet remained popular through the mid 1970, then began to decline, but has made its way back into popularity in the 21th century.

Parrot Talking - Choose a Bird For the Bird, Not the Talking

Image : http://www.flickr.com

No matter how long you train birds, it is always interesting to hear those first garbled words that come from a young parrot talking. You can never know what to expect, or how much of the mimicking will be sounds that resemble real words.

Have you ever met someone socially who you have seen in pictures on many occasions before, and yet had never actually spoken with face to face? You may have an opinion at the time of how the person's voice might sound. When the first words come out, you are astonished at the tone or accent that you hear.

Birds are similar to humans because there is no way to know how they will reproduce what they hear. Yes, there are some indications of what you might expect based on similar birds of the same size and species. However, it is not assured that tonal quality will be the same even between two birds that hatched together from the same parents.

You may have heard that the African Grey is the smartest of all parrots and that they always talk. This isn't the case, because a parrot talking or not talking is a decision that the bird will sometimes make on his own.

The size of the parrot has some bearing on the sound quality because the large parrots normally have the richer more natural sounds. Even this is not always true because there are small birds that can emulate sounds comparable to the larger parrots.

Buying a parrot just to hear a parrot talking is not a wise or humane action. The parrot is a living thing that can become a great friend to you when it is given the proper training and attention. It is not a talking Barbie doll and it has feelings.

Invest in a trainer for your bird if you decide to get one. A professional knows how to handle the animal and stands a better chance of getting the parrot to talk than you do if you have no previous experience. If you use the help of a trainer, you still must stay involved with the bird to be sure it becomes attached to you and not the trainer.

Establishing and maintaining a proper atmosphere is necessary if you want your pet to be at ease around you and others in your family. If an animal is unhappy in its home, it will not be comfortable enough to develop parrot talking skills for you. Abused birds rarely learn to talk.

Birds are intelligent creatures given to connecting with only a few people. It is cruel to procure one only to give it away or sell it to someone else. Parrots mate for a lifetime in the wild, and they have the tendency to "marry" their owner when they are domesticated. Whether a bird talks or not, the owner should be committed to the relationship.

Girls Birthday Gifts - The Little Princess's Surprise

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Daddy's girl is about to grow up and enter her teen years. This is a cause for a celebration, so you are organizing a birthday party for her. Yet what are the different things that you can present to her? You ask for advice and everybody fills up the think tank with their ideas about what they think are suitable girls birthday gifts. Girls are sensitive by nature; therefore you will need to do a little homework to find out what you can buy for her before you leave for the store. While shopping for girls birthday gifts, you have to make sure that she likes what you present to her.

Remember that that cute little girl is going to be a woman, and all women of all ages are obsessed with clothes, makeup and anything they can beautify themselves with. Perfect girls birthday gifts will feature items that give them an idea of how to become young women. Clothes come first. Get her some new dress to wear for the birthday party or get her anything from her favorite store. You can also get her some basic cosmetics like lip gloss or a perfume. Can you imagine how she will feel now that she got her first cosmetic item? She will definitely be overwhelmed to find that because she is going to be a young woman soon. If you guide her on how to use them, you can expect sparkles in her eyes!

Next, it is about the hair. Girls birthday gifts, especially gift baskets having hairbrushes, clips, a mirror (of course), and different hair accessories will make up quite an impressive gift. The make-your-own-jewelry kit is also a good choice. Girls would love to make their own necklaces using the different sized beads. Making friendship bands for their friends will also be an exciting experience to them. All this added in a gift basket with slumber party stuff will make up quite a delightful gift for the little girl.

Nearly every girl pictures herself to be a princess and her friends to be her fellow princesses. You can get a gift basket that features Disney princesses and contains different accessories. You can also go for Dora the Explorer gifts baskets, Winx Club gift baskets and of course, Barbie baskets as these are an all time favorite. Girls can play with dolls all day long and never get tired of them, especially Barbie dolls. Accessorize her doll with dolls' dresses that are similar to hers and you will be amazed at how excited she would get.

Girls also love to be creative. As compared to boys, girls go beyond all boundaries when they have to express their creativity. For girls birthday gifts, you can select a gift basket in which you can add different art supplies like paints, color books, crayons etc. However, this is not just limited to this. You can find out what does she fantasize herself to be in the future. If she wants to be a doctor, you can present to her a microscope. If it is a fashion designer that she aspires to be, give her a small sewing machine. These will make great gifts for the birthday girl and brings out the creative side of her.

Barbie's Car

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Little girls can enjoy the idea of driving a car by having the different kinds of Barbie Cars available. The makers of Barbie will fist look at the car market and see which car is most popular. For example, the Volkswagen bug hit the market by storm and Barbie wasn't about to be left behind. She got one too. Barbie has also had a Ferrari, which might be her most well known car. Some of these cars have working speed gears, convertible hoods that can be removed and different accessories are available to pimp her car.

Barbie has also been seen driving jeep versions which are made a little more girl by painting them Barbie pink. In addition to driving these sturdy cars, Barbie has been seen zipping around on motor cycles, scooter and race cars.

A lot of marketing goes into trying to appeal to Barbie lovers. There are many ads showing all the accessories that come with these toys. Ashley Taws, an 16 year old race car driver produced a marketing campaign to help promote the car, the Taws racing team uses. She drove around the racetrack in a pink Barbie's Car ,and you can bet that after that, a lot of little girls wanted a car just like that for their barbies.

This just goes to show, how much of a role model Barbie is, and also as much as Barbie accessories change, the Barbie Car isn't going to be left behind either. Its going to change with the times.

Status And Older Women

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I happen to have a preference for older women. Not old. Just older. I realize this goes against many men's belief that younger is better but my preference is well rooted.

It's the media and our programming as males that bias our view towards the younger women. There's this and the ego of men who confuse "harder to get" with "better". Well, that will only get you so far and if so, maybe it's time for a wake up call if you find yourself constantly pining for the young "hotties".

My best experiences were with older women. The intelligent, high self-esteem, takes good care of herself, variety. It's a combination of all around physical and mental maturity that makes them the better pick over their younger sisters. You know those younger girls I'm talking about; those expressionless, all done up, Barbie doll types. They don't have much to say, often times - a bit scarce in the social skills department.

For many men, their egos (and Maxim) tell them that the young ones are the ones to go for, but let's look at some logic here. They are usually less experienced, more whimsical. Their bodies are not as matured. In fact, their bodies are only HINTING at the shape they'll eventually have - that body shape of a women who is sexually peaked, who is in her thirties (sometimes forties), and knows what she wants and likes.

Also, from an evolutionary perspective, women 30+ have less reproductive time left so it makes sense for their bodies to ramp-up the attractiveness to attract mates. And naturally, their interest in sex goes up, and so does their tendency to initiate sex. Can't afford passivity at this point. And this, combined with more world experience, and fun personality, defines true sexiness in my book.

The Five Secrets to Getting the Best Price When Buying an Antique Doll Or Collectible Barbie Doll

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The absolute best way to get a great deal when buying a collectible antique doll or Barbie doll is to be armed with information. There' no substitute for knowledge when it comes to buying or investing in dolls.

There are usually only two things you, as a doll collector, are looking for when considering antique dolls:

#1. You are looking for a very specific doll. You know the designer, when and where the doll was made and you know a lot of other things about the exact doll you're looking for.

#2. You are looking for a bargain. You are looking for any antique doll or collectible doll that is available way below it's actual value.

Here's how to get the best value for both types of dolls.

You have to approach each of these situations differently. The first situation is easier, but there are still some things that many collectors overlook. You need to do your homework and find out what dolls like you are looking for are actually selling for. And you need to know what they have sold for recently.

The market may have changed.  A particular doll that was in high demand and expensive not long ago, may be a lot less expensive now (or it may be even more expensive). Either way, don't rely on your previous knowledge. Find out what the value of the doll is NOW.

By all means it's important that you don't let your emotions get in the way of logic. Of course, that's easier to say than to do. If you love antique dolls like I do, it's easy to fall in love with a doll. But remember that you will have a better chance to get the best doll at the best price, if you can remain logical and not let your emotions rule.

Of course, the condition of the doll you're looking for has a lot to do with the price. This means that there could be (and probably will be) a wide range of prices that the particular doll you're looking for will be selling for.

In the second situation where you are looking for any doll that you can get at a great price, your job is even harder. You need to know the value of many dolls in order to find bargains. Of course, you can't know the value of all dolls, but there are probably a wide range of dolls that you're interested in and have some idea about the the price range they should be selling in.

One of the best ways to find a bargain in an antique doll is to realize that a lot of people start out collecting dolls and then lose interest. Also realize that in many cases the person selling the doll wants to sell it a lot more than you want to buy the doll. Regardless of how high (or even how reasonable) the initial asking price is, make a low-ball offer and work from there.

The Internet has a wealth of information about dolls. One of the best places to find out about antique doll prices is on eBay. Be sure to check completed auctions to see what antique, collectible or Barbie dolls like the one you're looking for really sold for. You can use this information in your negotiating.

CraigsList is another good place to search for antique dolls or Barbie dolls. But remember that the prices shown on CraigsList are the asking prices and not what the doll will or did sell for.

When you're armed with all of the above information, your final step is to use the five negotiating techniques shown below and don't be in a hurry -- be the reluctant buyer.

Five  Secrets to Getting the Best Price When Buying Any Antique, Collectible, or Barbie Doll:

1.    Offer way less than you expect to have to pay.

2.    Always act shocked and surprised at the other side's first price.

3.    Say, "You've got to do better than that."

4.   Walk away (or pretend to walk away) sometime during the negotiation.

5.    Arm yourself with information.  The more you're prepared with facts and information, the better deal you can negotiate.  For example, say, "I have checked eBay and other Internet sources, and dolls like this one never sell for more than $200."

Use these techniques and you will come out with the best deal possible on an antique doll. Don't forget that there are a lot of collectible dolls out there, so always be willing to walk away from any negotiation.

Bottom line: Do your homework, check prices on eBay, negotiate, be patient and walk away (or pretend to  walk away) from any negotiation if necessary.

Barbie Doll - A Representation of the Modern Woman

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There is more to Barbie than merely being a stylish doll, a sought-after collectible, or a well-known toy around the globe. Barbie is a society icon. She upholds the rights of women and fights for what is right in behalf of people all over the world. She has taken on a variety of roles, that of a princess, a ballerina and a presidential bet.

Made known to the public in 1959, Barbie was introduced in New York at the American International Toy Fair. She was dressed in a zebra striped swimwear and was given the title, "Teenage Fashion Model". Prior to her existence, little girls acting as mommies had only baby dolls as their "babies" to play with.

In 1961, Barbie met her little sibling, Skipper. She also made friends with Ken, Midge (who became her best friend) and Allan. Barbie's family eventually grew bigger. She soon had twin siblings -- Tutti and Todd. Also, she had horses, cats, dogs and many other animals as her pets.

Aside from her outfits and shoes, mansions and vehicles were created for Barbie. Ken never gave her such luxurious things. No, those cars, mansions and jewelries were not from him. Barbie acquired them all by herself from being a career woman. This depicted a realistic picture for little girls to see that a woman doesn't need a man to take care of her.

An independent woman that she was, she was capable of buying expensive and branded things for herself. However, she lived a more meaningful life other than living a life of luxury. Aside from being able to become a dentist, she has been able to teach people and treat sick animals. She has played societal roles -- soldier, ambassador for peace, a UNICEF representative, policewoman, firefighter, chef, and a paleontologist. Apart from being a flight stewardess, she even had a license to fly planes!

Barbie has shown that because of her undertakings, little girls can too become like her -- a woman who achieved her dream by putting her heart and mind into it. Barbie is not a mere American doll. She has been a cultural advocate, having taken the roles of a Spanish flamenco dancer, a princess of the Vikings, and a South African lady, which is one of the many reasons she is adored by children.

It is not surprising that one day, Barbie will represent each culture through her clothing and appearance. Designers and stylists alike want Barbie to put on their clothing this year. Movies become blockbuster hits if Barbie joins their cast.

Barbie has shown respect to Shakespeare's plays, King Arthur's tales, The Wizard of Oz, and Twilight. She is an inspiration to little girls worldwide that women can be successful in whatever role they have in life. She has inspired them to be independent and strong so that they will grow to be individuals capable of changing the world to a much better place to live in.

She was inspired by her daughter's interest for the attire of paper dolls and would create a three-dimensional version. Self Esteem Activities For Girls - 3 Self Esteem Boosting Ideas

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Self esteem can be a confusing thing for many people, and in my experience it is usually women and girls who have the most problems with it so ladies, this article is for you!

Whilst self esteem activities for girls may conjure up ideas of getting makeovers and new hair-do's I'm going to try and steer away from that sort of thing as I've found that this is not really self esteem building, but a very shallow way that gives you fake confidence and is no real help in the end. I'm not against dressing up and looking good (c'mon, every girl loves to look good) but it cannot be your source of confidence and self esteem in life as it is too variable, inconsistent and circumstantial.

Self Esteem Activities For Girls - 3 Self Esteem Boosting Ideas

1) Follow the 3 Steps to happiness - These three steps if followed offer the very basic keys to simple happiness, and can be a good boost to self esteem. These include get regular physical exercise, mental exercise - aka always be learning and challenging your mind, and of course frequent social interactions. Make sure you get each of these 3 thing as often as you can as they alone can lead to a very simple quality of happiness and confidence. Think of people in less developed countries who are poor in a material sense, but can still lead a much happier life than most Westerners.

2) Resist Social Pressure - A very female specific issue in regards to self esteem is the massive massive social pressure that is placed on us in our western environment. If you look at tv, the media, movies, advertisements, magazines, there is a very congruent pattern that is telling us that we must have a small bum and firm breasts or else we are unattractive. This whole social misconception is so fundamentally flawed that I could write a whole book on it!

The bottom line and the best advice I can give you about it is that know that true confidence and self esteem does not come from being eye candy, this is a false sense of self image and confidence which will disappear once a woman reaches a certain age. The trick is not to get swept up in this whole "looks is everything" argument. Make sure you look after yourself and feature whatever you cannot fix(aka - if you have crooked teeth, that doesn't mean they can't be clean) as it is normal for everyone to want to look presentable, this is fine.

Something that is a lot more attractive than looks however is a confident attitude. I have countless male friends who have confided in me that a womans attitude can be VERY addictive and override the fact she may not be a barbie doll look-a-like. A woman with an attractive, positive attitude will in the end receive much more attention than a model with low self esteem and the personality of a tree. This is great because a personality you can develop no matter who you are. A final mindset I'll leave you with is "if something can be done I have just as great a chance as anyone else" is a very humble way to go about life.

3) Surround yourself with supportive people - A big step to developing self confidence and any self improvement in life is to surround yourself in a supportive environment, filled with people who will be always be willing to encourage you. This may be your family, friends, co-workers, etc. Find people who love you for you and will be there to help you up whenever you are down. Confidence and self esteem cannot grow from an unreceptive environment, so make sure yours is supportive. If they have the opposite affect, get out of there or limit your time spend there as overtime it will have a negative affect on your self confidence, and be a cause of your low self esteem symptoms.

I hope these self esteem activities for girls have been helpful to you.

Essential Jewellery Making Tools You Should Have in Your Kit

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Just like doctors and their black bags and mechanics with their toolboxes, people who are into jewellery making need to have a few tools in their kit in order to work on the pieces they are creating. If you are taking up jewellery making, it is a must that you have these tools because it will make your work a lot easier for you.

So, what tools do you need to have in your toolkit when you work on jewellery making? Here are just some of the basic tools that your craft requires.

Pliers are Basic in Jewellery Making

Pliers are the most essential tools that you need to have when you craft jewellery. There are many kinds of pliers and here are some of them that you will use.

1. Large nosed pliers. Large nosed pliers act as extensions of your fingers. You use them for bending wires or for straightening or pulling at them. You get to shape the wire with this type of pliers.

2. Flat nose pliers. Flat nose pliers are used for closing clasps and crimps. They also work a lot better with jewellery projects that require thinner wires.

3. Round nose pliers. Round nose pliers are pliers with a narrow and tapered nose. They are used mainly for opening jump rings and for creating neat little loops on your jewellery wires.

Other Jewellery Making Tools

Aside from pliers, you have to have other tools in your jewellery making kit that can help you pick up your beads, handle your jewellery components properly, for shaping your pieces and for storing them. What other tools do you need for jewellery making? Here is a list.

1. Jeweller's files. Jeweller's files will help you file away at the sharp ends of your wire so they would not injure whoever would be wearing your jewellery pieces. They are also called needle files.

2. Polishing cloth. You need polishing cloth when you hold your wire to straighten out jewellery. This will prevent any scratches on your wires as you do the job.

3. Rulers. A ruler is necessary for ensuring that you have the right length of wire for the piece you are working on.

4. Storage boxes. Naturally, you would need a place to store all your tools, beads, wires, clasps, findings and everything else that you need to create your jewellery pieces. Storage boxes will do the job for you. Make sure that you get boxes that have compartments so your tools and supplies will be more organized.

5. Tweezers. It can be difficult to pick up small items for crafting jewellery such as beads, clasps and findings with just your fingers. It can also be difficult to hold your work with only your hands. Tweezers can help you pick up items that are too small or too difficult to hold.

6. Wire cutters. Wire cutters are, as the name implies, used to make sure that you have the right length of wire that you want. You also need this to cut at your ends when you are done working with your jewellery project.

These are just some of the necessary tools that you need to have in jewellery making. These tools will help the work that you have to do on your jewellery making projects a lot easier.

Boys Gift Baskets - Follow the Rules

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Preparing boys gift baskets? This task is surely going to take a lot of brainstorming. Boys gift baskets are definitely way too different than we typically imagine a 'gift basket' to be. There are some rules, strictly to be followed. For instance, no pinks, no flora and of course no Hello Kitty merchandise.

Although gifts depend a lot on the personal choices and behavior of the one being gifted, it won't be a good idea to encourage 'girly' choices like those mentioned above in a boy. So, even if you are preparing a boys gift baskets for a boy like that, pinks and kittens remain a definite 'NO, NO!'

The toys for boys are far more practical than pretty. Plus, one important thing to keep in mind is that the wish list used to fill up boys gift baskets keeps changing faster than you can imagine.

Maybe your niece would love to have a Barbie doll for every birthday, but you just can't keep gifting a water gun to your nephew. It may be harsh to say that he'll hate you for that, but you know little boys, don't you? So what gift can you assemble for that little boy?

First of all, you should understand how easily boys get fed up of their toys, regardless of their age. So, the key word for your gifts should be 'latest'.

When preparing boys gift baskets for boys aged below eight, look for something that you had not seen the last time you were going through the gift shop. Plus, make sure that it is something that cannot be a part of their sisters' Barbie house.

It can be something that can be the earliest prop to pump up the boy's passion about anything, mini toy cars, a sing along piano or fine arts kits for kids perhaps. Who knows? Maybe you'll see a rock star thanking you on stage, some twenty years later, or a Nascar racing star popping champagne in your honor. All that could be thanks to the boys gift baskets you had given a decade or so ago.

Yet sometimes, you might not be very familiar with the 'Giftees '. So how are you going to fill up the gift basket when you have no ideas whatsoever?

One thing is common with boys of all ages: they love showing off. So, choose some accessories for them. Yes, there are few things that any boy would love to have any time. Stuff like wrist watches, caps and wrist bands. You can also try filling your boys gift baskets with something that they can show off at school such as snack boxes, fancy pens or pencils, coloring kits, pencil cases or backpacks.

Next come teens-the hardest people to please. Make sure you stick to the 'latest' rule we had talked about earlier. Keep an eye for the latest trends in games, gadgets and gizmos. You can't imagine the excitement of a teen when he gets the latest video game without having to pay for it. You can easily fill up your gift basket with the latest video games CDs, mp3 players, memory sticks or other gaming accessories, and be sure that they will love it.

So, now that you know the rules, start making a list of what to buy. No more wasting time then. Just fill up your boys' baskets with these hot wish list items and you'll definitely get a bunch of merry boys around you.

Collecting Dolls and Why It's So Popular

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Doll collecting is a hobby that is widely misunderstood by many people. One may assume that doll collectors are just old ladies with nothing else better to do. They picture bizarre looking dolls with plastic bodies, and old crocheted hand made clothing smelling of moth balls, that are tucked neatly away into old stale closets. Also, many people just presume that only young girls are fascinated with such a hobby. These are common erroneous beliefs, and may not be entirely false. The fact is that many different people collect many different kind of dolls. Don't be fooled; the reason for this is not because they have no alternative to entertaining themselves. Doll collecting can actually be quite a rewarding experience.

Your average collector today has a myriad of choices, from vintage to up to date, small and large. Robert Tonner's 8-inch Tiny Betsy McCall captures the real meaning of McCall's paper dolls of the 1960s with in depth fashions and the wide-eyed purity and innocence of a little girl playing grownup. More in recent times, Wilde Imagination introduced the moody Ellowyne Wilde, a beautifully rendered 16-inch doll with fashions any woman would welcome to her closet.

And then Barbie, the Queen of all Fashion Dolls, comes along! Introduced at Toy Fair in 1959, Barbie has remained an iconic symbol of twentieth century play time even in this new millennium. Her ponytail and handsomely accessorized outfits allowed little girls to let their imaginations run wild and even imitate what they might be someday. Barbie was a lot of things; a flight attendant, a nurse and a sorority sister in her early years and she went on to become an astronaut, a doctor and a presidential candidate. And so, it is this imagination and imitation that adult collectors are drawn to today.

Many collectors are drawn to antique dolls like the German and French dolls that usually cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. Still others try to find the little girl dolls like Vogue's Ginny or American Character's Tiny Tears because with those, they are reminded of another time, when life was simpler. There is pretty much one word for all of this; nostalgia.

Adult life is very difficult and complicated under the best of circumstances and the doll's world is quite simply fun. When a collector is hindered in a moment of play, he or she is in their own little world. But, that's okay. Their little dollies know them.

The Alpha Female: Dating a Younger Man

Image : http://www.flickr.com

You would think that older women dating younger men would be generally accepted by now, but a lot of people still regard it as something outside the norms of dating and relationships.

Let's face it: we live in predominantly patriarchal society, and even though feminist movements and women's rights groups have come a long way, old habits die hard. Some may even argue if it's still a patriarchal society we're living in, since women have been increasingly successful in their quest on equality with men. However, we need to consider the way we have been trained to see things.
I mean patriarchal in the sense that women are oftentimes seen as deficient, like when girls fail to live up to Barbie doll figures, they are castigated for falling short. So when we hear and read about other women, usually celebrities, dating younger men and even getting married to them, we rationalize. We reason out that it's acceptable for them because they are hot property precisely because they are celebrities or they came from a good family. If you are ten years older than the man you are dating but - and it's a big BUT - you have fabulous long legs and amazingly clear skin and you've built a name already, who cares, right? They are the alpha females: the rich, the famous, and the gorgeous people who can get away it.

The thing is that anybody can get away with it. So what if the guy looks like your friend's kid brother, or if people stare at you when you walk hand-in-hand? You are not dating the whole society, just a single man. And if that man is making you happy and is treating you right, who's to say you shouldn't go for it? You may look a bit older compared to him, but what's that if he goes making you feel like an alpha female, right? So the next time a younger man comes up to you, don't shy away. Who knows, he might be able to show you the star quality he sees in you.

Vogue Dolls - The Ginny Baby and Littlest Angel

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In the years of 1960 through 1980 the Vogue Doll Company produced a baby doll called "Ginny Baby."

I especially like the Vogue Ginny Baby dolls. I have several of them in my Vogue collection (pictures available on the site). Two of my collection were produced in the year of 1965 and are called The Vogue Ginny Baby Doll. Each has their original outfits of which are different. Both wear little hats. They are not the drink/wet or the dry/nurser versions.

The Vogue Doll Company also produced the Ginny Baby doll throughout these years that were drink/wet dolls and some were dry/nurser (produced in 1962 and 1963). I do have one example pictured on the site of a drink/wet Ginny Baby in her original, red and tagged outfit.

The Vogue Ginny Baby dolls came in many different sizes. The sizes I have as examples are all three 13 inches tall.

A doll called Vogue Angel Baby produced only in the years of 1964 through 1968 has a slightly different face from the others I have and stands 14 inches tall.

The smallest of these dolls was 8 inches, and an example is Ginny's sister, Ginnette in this size. Other sizes were 13", 14", 16" and 25" versions. Not all these sizes were available every year.

All of my Vogue Ginny Baby Dolls have the rooted hair; however, some of these dolls were made with painted hair instead.

Most of them are usually marked on the back of the neck "Ginny Baby," or "Vogue."

You can find the most information, in my opinion, about the Vogue Ginny Dolls in the Vogue Encyclopedia by Izen/Stover. In this book, it states the company released no information in some of the years these dolls were produced. This as it is makes it more difficult to identify these dolls with perfection.

Most clothing produced by the Vogue Doll Company is tagged on an inside seam. Identification of authentic Vogue clothing is a fairly easy task since this seems to be very consistent throughout the years the Vogue doll clothing was produced.

The Vogue Ginny Dolls were very popular throughout the 1960s; however, Mattel's Barbie began to dominate the doll market and quickly became a much more popular line of dolls. The walking, talking crawling, singing, dancing, skating dolls also began to gain great popularity for the baby boomer generation. As a child, I had the Barbie, but not any of the Vogue Ginny Baby dolls. Discovering the Vogue Ginny Baby dolls has been an extra little delight for me. Of course, like my Chatty Cathy, all my Barbie dolls got lost somewhere in childhood moves. It is just as much fun though recollecting them.

The Vogue Littlest Angels dolls were also produced in the 1960s wearing different tagged Vogue outfits. They each stand about 15" tall and have moveable limbs and sleep eyes. Many of them have long braided blonde hair. Vogue purchased the rights to this doll from the Arranbee Doll Company in the late 1950s and then introduced them in their early 1960s catalogs. Some of the earlier versions are marked with the R&B mark, and some stand 11" rather than the 15" I have in my collection. There was also a black version of the Littlest Angel Doll. Many of them were sold with a metal doll trunk. A really cute, original outfit for the Littlest Angel Doll was a red velveteen pant suit.

For My Single, Eligible and Available Ladies

Image : http://www.flickr.com

From very early in life, most girls have played house with their Barbie doll and Ken was not far out of sight in the big magical fairytale picture. Our daydreams mirrored this fairytale. Then we got to adolescence and started to read the romance novels in which people always lived happily ever after. At some point we got a few rude shocks possibly from one or two heartbreaks from a boyfriend in college. Now we are ready to get married and somehow that fairytale does not happen quite the way we imagined. Why is this? Because reality is different. We got through our twenties; then our thirties are ticking by...Tick tock tick tock...And no Prince Charming!

Here are a few principles that worked for me eventually that I can safely say you should try out if you are single, female, eligible and looking for true love and marriage:

ABOUT YOU:

1) Know who you are. Be clear on your identity. Be comfortable with you.
2) Do not play house before marriage. That includes doing all his chores for him etc. If he is already getting all the benefits, he may see no need to take the next step. Women are naturally nurturers but you are not his mother. You are also not his wife yet. There will be time enough for that later.
3) Be willing to change something about yourself; even if it is how you choose who to go into a relationship with. All the men cannot be wrong and if they are, your choices have been wrong then.
4) Be willing to wait for the right person. It is possible he has just not come along.
5) Do not turn a casual relationship into a serious one.
6) Be an individual and not a groupie.
7) Position yourself to attract the kind of man you would want to be with. Have a skill, dress appropriately and go to the right gatherings.
8) Do not have unrealistic expectations. Not everyone is going to marry an MBA player or millionaire businessman. If those happen, they are extras. Your criteria should be the things that matter. Look from inside out: Character, his heart, his soul, his willingness to work hard and make a living, spirituality, etc over looks, height, what he drives, where he lives, who his friends are etc.
9) Do not try to get him to marry you by getting pregnant for him!
10) Give yourself time to know the man before getting engaged and married. It has worked for some but it usually takes longer than a few months to really know people and get past where they still have their guards up.
11) Pay attention to how he treats the other women in his life-his mother, his sister(s), and his friends. What is his general attitude to women? How does he treat people generally? Does he have regard for the next person? If the only person he is nice to is you, it is only a matter of time before he starts to get mean toward you as well.
12) Set yourself up so that even though you are willing to be with someone, if it never happened, you would still have a fulfilled life and enjoy the love of family and friends. Do not just wait around for the man to show up and fix everything. He cannot complete you. You have to be complete and fulfilled in yourself already.
13) Join yourself to someone who has found himself and who has a purpose in life, a dream.
14) When the time comes, focus on the marriage and not the wedding ceremony. Focus on the rest of your life with this man above the few hours that is really for everybody else!
15) Let a responsible and worthy man be the man. We should coexist and not compete. We are different and have different roles. Men often like to be protectors and providers. Often, when a man feels trusted and respected, he lets down his guard and lets the woman take care of most issues. You nurture the family. He only steps in for the big issues. Everybody wins.

ABOUT HIM:

1) Men are mostly simple. If he is behaving badly, do not give excuses for him. He does not care enough and has no regard for you.
2) Do not ignore any red flags that come up while dating. Better to deal with it earlier than later.
3) Do perform a background check on your man. It is pretty easy to do now.
4) Do not ignore negative reports about him from people who have known him longer than you. Instead, investigate.
5) If he does not have a clue why his previous marriage or serious relationship failed, he may not be read for a new one.
6) Please do ask direct questions about sexual orientation.

ABOUT BOTH OF YOU:

1) Discuss kids. Understand that kids need both parents before you decide to bring kids into the world and that your resolve to stay together needs to be stronger once that child is born.
2) Cheating and domestic violence are a no no! They are never acceptable.
3) Do not be with a man who tries to belittle you or kill your spirit. Relationships are partnership. Some men appear to be helping or trying to improve you while in fact they are trying to change you into what they want and they want to control your every move. That is unhealthy. You do not own your partner.
4) Resolve money issues. Discuss whether you will continue to work after marriage and after kids. Do not assume you have the same ideas or that it will work itself out.
5) Hold on to your belief system. I can speak for mine. As a Christian, a successful relationship for me takes both parties having a strong relationship with God and often stepping back and asking myself, "What would Jesus do?"

I hope that at some point, we will start to have improved statistics on divorce, single parenthood and teenage pregnancies. I hope we will once more get back to the days where people got married and stayed married and happy; creating a stable, loving and nurturing environment for their kids. Remember, the kids are our future.

Think Before Committing to Cosmetic Surgery

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The world is very image conscious; everyone is constantly concerned about the state of their hair, the wrinkles on their face and the shape of various body parts. Where previously people would have dealt with what they had, the invention of cosmetic surgery and the fact that it is now becoming more affordable has made it possible for people to live out their fantasies of having the near perfect body or image of themselves.

In reality this will never happen as perfection is something that is unobtainable. If someone wants to tweak a certain body part to make it better through cosmetic surgery it is likely that once they have perfected or achieved a level that they find satisfactory for this particular body part that they will notice another imperfection on their body that they would like to change.

This can lead to a vicious cycle where people get addicted to the thought of obtaining a better body and constantly seek to change things. In the end some of these individuals start to look more like a plastic Barbie doll than they do like a human being. Although on photo shoots These cosmetic surgery enhanced individuals may look perfect without any blemishes, up close in person the effects of surgery has taken its toll on them and they look unnatural.

Cosmetic surgery can help in certain cases where someone is so disgusted with a body part that it has had a serious effect on their self esteem. However, it is always best for individuals to speak through any procedures they wish to have completed with friends, family and a surgical consultant. This way the individual should obtain a balanced view on whether or not to follow through with the procedure.

It seems a shame that we have become so image conscious and less concerned about what really matters and that is what is on the inside. We are surrounded by people who appear to think that it is more important to look good than anything else. The sad fact of the matter is that cosmetic surgery will only change the way you look it will not change any deep down conscious or unconscious impressions that you may have built up. So when you consider whether or not to go for a surgical procedure you need to ask yourself some serious questions. Will this surgery really change your life for the better? And are you having the surgery for the right reasons?

7 Great Online Dress Up Games

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are hundreds of different dress up games available online. Getting started in dress up games is as simple as searching for the available games online. There is a huge variety of games and some of the most popular are huge with players of all ages.

Barbie Dress Up Games

These games take the fashion icon we've all loved for decades and put her into new outfits as an online paper doll. To play the Barbie games, you start with a Barbie doll and then select the outfits and accessories for her to wear. The games include hundreds of items, right down to the little pointed shoes.

Bratz Dress Up Games

The Bratz games are a fun way to play with the dolls that might very well be on the way out. The Bratz dolls have been the subject of lawsuits and speculation for years and now they might not be around much longer. Or they might last forever as the new property of Mattel. Regardless, the online version of the Bratz games lets you enjoy the characters without the drama.

Goth Dress Up Games

How often have you wondered how you'd look in all dark clothing. The gothic romantic clothing style favored by many individuals have their very own dress up games. To play these games, you'll be able to pick out the darker styles for the dolls to wear. Often you might even learn a bit about your personal style preferences while playing.

Princess Dress Up Games

Princesses are popular with good reason. Everyone has dreamed at least once, or perhaps just wondered, what it would be like to be a princess. Playing the princess games gives you a chance to at least dress the dolls, if not actually experience the life yourself.

Couple Dress Up Games

Dressing up couples is essentially two for the price of one. Playing these games gives you a guy and a girl most often, although you might find a game with the same gender dolls, and then you have the opportunity to create matching or coordinating styles for the two. Pick out clothes that compliment the other doll or dress them in something that severely crashes. Since it's your design, you can do whatever you'd like.

Fairy Dress Up Games

The little fairies that have become so popular in movies and in games have their own fashion games as well. In the fairy games, you're able to dress the dolls up and you can get especially creative with these dolls as you pick out their wings and their hair styles and colors. After all, you can design a pretty green fairy with green hair and golden wings if you so choose. It's just part of the fun!

Mermaid Dress Up Games

Another favorite for those who love the fashion games, designing your own mermaids might not have as many fashion choices as some of the other games, but you are able to design the mermaid from scratch in most cases. Choose a tail and a body then add the face, hair and all of the clothing and accessories. The final product is highly personal and plenty of fun.
